Privacy Policy
The short version
Device Attic is an offline app. Your inventory — collections, devices, photos, receipts, prices and dates — is stored in a database on your own phone. There is no account, we do not run a server for your data, and none of it is uploaded to us or to anyone else. The app touches the internet in only two situations: when you ask it to read a product link, and when it refreshes published currency exchange rates. This version contains no advertising, no analytics and nothing to buy.
1. Who is responsible
Device Attic is developed and published by an independent developer (referred to below as “we”, “us” or “the developer”). For anything in this policy, write to oleksandr.penzhuliak@gmail.com.
This policy explains what happens to information when you use the app. It does not cover the app stores that distribute the app, or third-party websites you open from within it — those have their own policies.
2. What the app stores on your device
Everything you put into Device Attic is written to local storage on your phone — a database and files inside the app's own private storage area. This includes:
- Collections — their names, icons, colours and order.
- Devices — name, brand, price and currency, product link, purchase date, warranty length, status, icon and colour tag.
- Photos you take with the camera or choose from your library, stored as image files.
- Documents you attach — receipts, invoices, warranty cards, manuals — stored as files under the name you give them.
- Specifications you add, such as serial number, storage or colour.
- Your own statuses and specification templates.
- Preferences — theme, language, default currency, default sort, notification settings, and whether you have completed the introduction.
- A cached table of currency exchange rates, so totals can be converted while you are offline. It is public reference data and contains nothing about you.
- A widget snapshot, if you place a home-screen widget — see section 9.
This data never leaves your phone by itself. We cannot see it, we have no copy of it, and we cannot recover it for you if it is lost — which is why the app offers backups.
Be aware that your phone's own backup system (Google's Android Backup, or iCloud/iTunes backups on iOS) may include app data in a device backup according to your system settings. That backup is handled by Google or Apple under their policies, not by us.
3. What we collect
Nothing. The app has no sign-up, no login and no user profile. We do not collect your name, email address, phone number, contacts or location. We do not operate any server that receives your inventory.
The app contains no analytics SDK, no crash-reporting SDK and no advertising SDK — we receive no usage statistics, no event tracking and no device fingerprints from the app. Nothing in the app profiles you, and nothing you enter is used to build a profile anywhere else.
Separately, the App Store and Google Play give developers aggregate, anonymised statistics about downloads, crashes and purchases. That is produced by them, we cannot use it to identify you, and it does not contain anything from your inventory.
4. When the app uses the internet
The app requests internet access for two purposes, and no others:
- Reading a product link (only when you ask). If you paste a store URL into a device and tap Parse, the app requests that page directly from that store's website and reads its title, image and price from the page. The request goes to the store you chose, not to us; that store will see it like any other visit, including your IP address and the fact that the page was requested. Nothing about your inventory is sent with it. If you never paste a link, this never happens.
- Currency exchange rates. So that totals in different currencies can be added up, the app downloads the published daily reference rates from open.er-api.com. This is an ordinary request for a public document that is identical for every user: it carries no identifier, no account and nothing from your inventory — only the three-letter code of the currency you have chosen as your default, which forms part of the address. It runs at most once when you open the app and at most once a day; if it fails or you are offline, the app simply keeps using the rates it already has.
Every other feature works with the network switched off. The app never uploads your inventory, your photos or your documents anywhere.
5. Advertising
This version of Device Attic shows no ads and contains no advertising or tracking SDK. No advertising identifier is read, and nothing about you is sent to an ad network, because there is no ad network in the app.
An ad-supported free tier is planned for a future release, with ads removed by the Pro upgrade. If and when that ships, this policy will be updated before it is switched on, to name the network, say what it receives and explain how to limit it — and, where the law requires it, the app will ask for your consent first.
6. Purchases and subscriptions
This version of Device Attic has nothing to buy. There is no subscription, no in-app purchase and no billing SDK in the app: it asks no store anything about your account, it keeps no record of what you have bought, and every feature it has is yours without paying.
A paid Pro upgrade is planned for a future release. If and when it ships, payment will be handled entirely by Apple or Google — they process your payment details, and we will never see or store your card number, billing address or store account credentials — and this policy will be updated to describe it before it is switched on.
7. Permissions
The app asks only for what a feature actually needs, and asks at the moment you use it:
- Notifications — to show warranty, anniversary and backup reminders. Decline it and the app works normally, minus the reminders.
- Camera — to photograph a device instead of picking an existing image. The app receives only the picture that is taken; it does not record video or use the camera at any other time. On Android the shot is taken by your system camera app, so Device Attic does not hold the camera permission at all.
- Photos — to attach an existing image to a device. The app receives the image you pick; it does not read or index your photo library.
- Files — to attach a document to a device, to save an export, and to pick a backup file when importing. Each is a file you choose yourself in the system picker.
- Internet — for the three purposes in section 4.
The app asks for no location, contacts, microphone, calendar or health permission, and has no use for any of them.
8. Notifications
All reminders are local: they are scheduled and shown by your phone, based on the purchase and warranty dates you entered. No push server is involved, nothing is sent to us, and no reminder content leaves your device.
9. Home-screen widgets
Device Attic offers home-screen widgets for adding a device quickly. To draw itself, a widget reads a small snapshot the app saves on your device: your collection names, their icons, colours and device counts, the total number of devices, and the colours of your chosen theme. Prices, photos, documents and device details are never part of it.
The snapshot stays on your phone and is not sent anywhere. Bear in mind that a widget draws on your home screen, so whoever can see your screen can see those collection names and counts — remove the widget if you would rather they were not on display.
10. Exports, reports and sharing
Exports (backup archives, CSV files and PDF reports) and the share actions for a collection or a device create files from your own data and hand them to your system's share sheet. Where those files then go is entirely your choice — an email, a messaging app, cloud storage, a computer.
Once you share a file, it is subject to the policies of whatever service you send it to. We have no involvement in, or visibility of, that step.
11. Keeping and deleting your data
Your data stays on your device for as long as you keep it there. Because we hold no copy, there is nothing for us to retain or delete.
- Delete a device or a collection in the app and it is removed from the database.
- Uninstalling the app removes its database, your photos and your attached documents from the phone. This cannot be undone — export a backup first if you may want the data later.
- Importing a backup with Replace existing data deletes what is currently stored and puts the backup in its place. The app warns you before doing it.
- Files you have already exported or shared elsewhere are not affected by any of the above.
12. Your rights
Privacy laws such as the GDPR (EU/EEA), the UK GDPR, Ukraine's Law on Personal Data Protection and the CCPA (California) give you rights of access, correction, deletion, portability and objection over personal data held about you.
For Device Attic these rights are satisfied directly by the app, because you are the only one holding the data: you can view and edit everything in the app, export it in portable formats (CSV, PDF, and a full backup archive), and delete it at any time. We hold no personal data about you to disclose, correct or erase, and we do not sell or share personal information — we have none to sell.
13. Children
Device Attic is a general-audience utility and is not directed at children under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age where you live). We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. Since the app collects no personal data from anyone, there is nothing for us to delete if a child uses it.
14. Features that are not active yet
You may notice places in the app that mention cloud backup to Google Drive or iCloud, marked Coming soon. These are not active. There is no account system running and no cloud backup takes place: the app is offline-only today, and the only way data leaves your phone is a file you export or share yourself.
The same applies to price history and to signing in with Google or Apple: neither is reachable in this version, and no such data is collected or transmitted.
If and when those features ship, they will change what data leaves your device, and this policy will be updated to describe them before they are switched on.
15. This website
This site is a set of static pages. It sets no cookies, embeds no analytics, and loads no fonts, scripts or images from third parties. Your web host will keep ordinary server logs (IP address, page requested, timestamp) as part of serving the page.
16. Changes to this policy
If the app changes in a way that affects your privacy — new features, advertising, cloud sync — this policy will be updated and the “last updated” date at the top will change. Significant changes will also be flagged in the app or in the store release notes.
17. Contact
